LANDS AND RESOURCES ACT
The proposed Lands and Resources Act meets the Ta'an Kwäch'än Council's responsibilities under the final and self-government agreements. The proposed legislation provides the Ta'an Kwäch'än Council with the necessary tools to set out measures for the issuance and enforcement of land use authorizations and their conditions for the use and, or, occupation of settlement land, which is in keeping with Ta'an Kwäch'än Council's authority to use, manage, administer, control and protect settlement land, including natural resources under Ta'an Kwäch'än Council ownership, control or jurisdiction.
The first reading by the Board of the proposed legislation closed on 16 February 2010. The second reading opened on 24 March 2010. The proposed Land Register Regulation and the Land Use Application and Authorization Regulation, under the legislation, passed first reading by the Board on 24 March 2010.
Public consultations regarding the proposed legislation were held on 11, 16 and 19 March and the regulations on 14 and 20 April 2010.
The proposed legislation and regulations were removed from their second and first readings in 2010, reviewed in several workshops and brought back before the Board for first reading on 24 November 2010.
